In the group stage, the US team was stronger than Germany, winning 2-0. In the standings, the Americans took the first line, having won six victories in seven matches in regular time.
The Germans were weaker on points. They finished third in the standings with four wins and three losses in regulation time. Germany in group B lost to Kazakhstan, Finland and the USA.
In the semi-finals, the Americans fought with Canada, but lost with a score of 4:2. Germany in the semi-finals went to Finland, which was initially considered one of the championship favorites. The Germans played hard, but could not get past the opponent, losing with a score of 2:1.

The German team has more modest achievements. Only four medals in the entire history of the championships – the Germans took silver in 1930 and 1953, and finished the tournament with bronze medals in 1932 and 1934. The Germans never became world champions in hockey.
