June 23 annually celebrates the International Olympic Day. It began to be celebrated in 1948 in memory of the revival of the Olympic movement in its modern form.

On this day, in 1894, in Paris, at the International Congress on Physical Education, the enthusiast of the Renaissance of the Olympic movement Baron Pierre de Cuberten presented his report. He introduced the audience with the organizational foundations of the Olympic Games. Congress approved the proposal of Baron Pierre de Cubertin to revive the tradition of ancient Greek Olympiads and hold competitions once every four years.

The Olympic Charter writes: The Olympic movement has their own goals to educate young people with the help of sports in the spirit of better understanding and friendship, thus contributing to the creation of a better and more calm world.

Games I Olympiads of our time were held in 1896 in Athens, in which 241 athlete from 14 countries took part. Then medals were played in 9 sports. And over the century, the capital of Greece again adopted the strongest athletes in the world. About 11 thousand athletes and officials from 202 countries have already participated in the games of the XXVIII Olympiad of 2004. Medals were played out in 28 sports.

The program of games of the XXXII Olympiad in Tokyo will include a record 33 sports and 339 competitions. Five new sports will make their debut: baseball/softball, karate, surfing, climbing and skateboarding.
