Dobovec was founded on April 24, 1978 in the town of Rogatec (a small settlement in Southeastern Slovenia). The club played in the amateur league until 1995. In the 2000/01 season, Dobovec moved to the country's top division. In the 2014/15 season, the team won its first title, the Slovenian Championship. On average, 150 spectators attend Slovenian matches. About 600 fans go to the decisive games.

In the 2015/16 season, in the Main Round, Dobovec beat the Bulgarian club Grand Pro Varna – 7:2 and the team from Bosnia and Herzegovina Centar Sarajevo – 5:2. Slovenes lost to Benfica – 1:6. In the UEFA Cup Elite Round, Dobovec finished third in the group. Slovenians lost to Inter – 0:8 and the Belarusian club Lida – 2:7. Managed to beat the French team Kremlin-Bicêtre United – 2:1.
Season 2017/18
Last season, Dobovec took 2nd place in the regular season. In the SFL playoffs, the team went through the quarter-finals and semi-finals undefeated. In the final, Dobovec proved to be stronger than the winner of the regular season in a five-match series. For the entire last season, the future rival of Sibiryak in the European Cup lost only one home match.
