The main running event of the year will be held on September 25 in Moscow.
Moscow marathon will gather the strongest runners of the country
On September 25, 2016, with the support of the Government of Moscow and the Department of Physical Culture and Sports of the city of Moscow, the most large -scale running event in Russia, which has already received the world sports community – Promsvyazbank, Moscow marathon, will be held for the fourth time.
Running from 70 countries will reach a distance of 42.2 km and 10 km. The competition will host a corporate relay race and the race of handbagers – athletes with disabilities competing with manual drive bicycles. The event of honor of the event will be the President of the Association of International Marathons and Maraths (AIMS) Paco Borao, who will not only visit the marathon on an official visit, but will also take part in a 10 km race.
The Promsvyazbank route of the Moscow marathon will pass along the embankments of the Moscow River, through the Crimean bridge, along the garden ring and Boulevard, along Tverskaya Street and Theater Passage, as well as under the walls of the Kremlin. This year, part of the distance on Nikitsky Boulevard will be reduced – instead, the participants will run along Mokhovaya Street. For the first time, throughout the distance of the marathon, by analogy with the largest races in the world, a “blue line” will be applied – marking the shortest path for elite athletes.
Every year the number of people who want to take part in the marathon is growing. If in 2013 5 thousand people were registered, then this year almost 28 thousand submitted applications for participation in the Promsvyazbank of the Moscow marathon. For the first time in the marathon, the elite of Russian sports will take part: the 2016 Marathon champion Fedor Shutov, last year champion Yuri Chechun, as well as Alexey Reunkov, a member of the 2015 Olympic Games, who took 9th place in the London marathon in 2015. The participation of elite athletes will make it possible to set a new track record. The current achievement is 2 hours 17 minutes. 23 sec. – Belonged by Kenyan runner Kibet Barshtuni since 2014.
The distance will also run by professional athletes known in other sports. From them, they are an ex-captain of the Russian national football team Alexei Smertin. Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Transport and Development of Road Transport infrastructure Maxim Liksutov and many others.
On the eve of the marathon, September 23-24, the EXPO will be held, where leading sports brands, medical companies, charitable funds and international races will be presented-only 60 stands.
The organizers took care not only about the health and comfort of the runners, but also about the inhabitants of the city. Two weeks before the marathon along the entire distance, information warning the townspeople about the upcoming floor ceiling will be posted. This will help motorists think through the ways of detour and parking lots in advance.
For Muscovites and guests of the capital who want to watch this bright sporting event, special stands will be available. And for those who decide to stay at home on this day, a live broadcast will be organized.
